The Ogun State Government has ordered the immediate re-opening of Oke-Aje Market in Ijebu-Ode.
The market was ordered closed on Friday following the failure of owners of shops and stalls in the market to comply with the state’s environmental laws.
In a statement released by the press officer to the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Femi Olayinka, the decision to re-open the market was taken following the compliance of the market men and women.
The Government pointed out that it never intended to cripple business activities in the market, but cannot condone dirtiness as it believes that business will thrive better in a clean and serene environment.
The State Government stated further that it will not hesitate to wield the big stick again on operators within the market or any other market across the state, if they fail to keep their environment clean always, reminding them that cleanliness is next to godliness.
It would be recalled that the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun along with his Deputy Chief (Mrs.) Yetunde Onanuga has since about a forth night ago been inspecting houses along the road, markets, drainages and road medians across the state to sensitize and ascertain the level of compliance of people with the state’s environmental laws.
