The Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has finalized plans to construct a hybrid pharmaceutical warehouse aimed at ensuring the consistent availability of essential medicines and medical supplies. This initiative is designed to enhance access to high-quality healthcare services.
Dr. Tomi Coker, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, revealed this development during an inspection of the project site at the Governor’s Office Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr. Coker emphasized that the construction of the Medical Store marks a significant achievement in Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to fortify the healthcare system, especially in terms of secure drug storage, efficient distribution, and accessibility for both the private and public sectors. She highlighted that the centralized facility will streamline the management of medicine supply chains, facilitating prompt and effective distribution to healthcare facilities. This shift from the current valley-based system is expected to improve the quality of drugs available to patients while also reducing costs for the people of the State.

Importantly, Dr. Coker noted that the project will be fully financed by UNICEF, with the State government providing counterpart funding to ensure the successful establishment of the hybrid pharmaceutical warehouse. She underscored that UNICEF’s support reflects the commitment of the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration to meet the healthcare needs of the populace.
Furthermore, she highlighted the significance of the State Health Insurance Scheme, which prioritizes access to quality drugs. She encouraged residents to take advantage of the Scheme to access high-quality and free medications, thereby avoiding unnecessary complications and fatalities.
The project contractor, Engr. Femi Adesoji of FemAdex Investment Limited, pledged that the project would be completed within four months and assured that his company would deliver high-quality work within the stipulated timeframe.
