The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for fulfilling his promise to reward outstanding graduates of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), including the family of the late best graduating student, who received ₦2.5 million.
In a statement made available to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, NAOSS President Oluwafemi Ajayi, also known as FM Castro, described the gesture as a demonstration of responsive and compassionate leadership.
The student body recalled that shortly after its national leadership was inaugurated on December 13, 2025, it presented a set of demands to the Ogun State Government, highlighting the need to honor Governor Abiodun’s pledge to reward exceptional MAPOLY graduates.
Ajayi noted that the governor’s swift action, coming less than two months after the appeal, reflects his commitment to listening to students and keeping promises. The payment of ₦2.5 million each to nine outstanding graduates—including awards dating back to 2016—fulfilled the pledge made by Abiodun during MAPOLY’s 15th Combined Convocation Ceremony in June 2025. The convocation also saw the approval of a ₦2 billion intervention fund for the institution.
“This prompt action highlights a leader who listens to the people and values his promises,” the statement read.
NAOSS also praised the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, for his professional handling of the award presentation and his continued advocacy for academic excellence.
The association was particularly moved by the inclusion of the family of the late Orisawayi Samuel Emmanuel, popularly known as Samoriz, who passed away in December 2025 before receiving his reward. His brother, Johnson Timileyin, accepted the award on behalf of the deceased, noting that the family intends to use it to support the education of younger relatives and preserve Samoriz’s legacy.
“It’s not about the money; he earned this through his dedication to education,” Timileyin said.
NAOSS described the governor’s gesture as evidence of a government guided by empathy and conscience, reassuring students across the state. The association expressed its gratitude to both Governor Abiodun and the education commissioner, noting that fulfilling the pledge marks a defining moment in student-government relations in Ogun State.
