Iperu, October 7, 2023 – Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, marked a solemn anniversary today as he remembered the passing of his beloved son, Gbemiga Abiodun. In a heartfelt Facebook post, the Governor paid tribute to his late son, highlighting his exceptional character and commitment to the betterment of others.
Gbemiga Abiodun was remembered as a young man of remarkable intellect and compassion, whose legacy continues to inspire those who knew him. On this poignant day, the Governor announced the inauguration of the “Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Ule,” a program that aims to honor his son’s memory by providing educational opportunities and support to underprivileged children and indigent learners in specific areas of Ogun State.
The “Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Program” will encompass public primary, secondary, technical colleges, and tertiary institutions, as well as special needs learners within Ikenne, Remo North, and Sagamu Local Government Areas. This initiative will offer scholarship awards for students aged 6 to 25, with selection criteria to be determined by the GA Education Program Coordinating Team and the State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.
For primary and secondary school beneficiaries, the selection process will involve cumulative promotion examination results obtainable from the Ogun State Education Records Administration (OGSERA) platform and other relevant parameters. Meanwhile, students recommended by their respective tertiary institutions will be eligible for scholarship awards at the higher education level.
In an initial act of generosity, Governor [Governor’s Last Name] provided support to 550 indigenous students. The program is set to grow and reach 1000 students within the next 12 months, with the goal of maintaining this minimum enrollment number. As some students graduate, others will be admitted to ensure that a continuous stream of at least 1000 students benefit from the program each year.
The Governor concluded his message by expressing his hope that Gbemiga Abiodun’s soul continues to rest in peace and that his legacy of education and compassion will thrive in the hearts of the next generation.
The “Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Program” is seen as a significant step towards enhancing access to quality education in the region, furthering the Governor’s commitment to educational development and social welfare in Ogun State.
