The Ogun State Government has initiated a campaign to remove illegal structures within the state’s industrial clusters to preserve the designated industrial areas’ layout and purpose.
This operation was conducted through a collaborative effort involving officials from the Special Land Task Force of the Bureau of Lands and Survey and the Central Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The reason for this action was the presence of unauthorized land occupation and structures lacking proper documentation or building permits.
Highlighting the significance of this endeavor, Arc. Segun Fowora, the Director-General of the Bureau of Lands and Survey, explained that the Bureau, in conjunction with the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, had issued multiple notices of contravention to the occupants of these illegal structures. However, they continued with construction activities without adhering to compliance.
Arc. Fowora urged potential land buyers to exercise caution when considering the purchase of government-owned land along major highways in the State and to verify the legitimacy of such land through the office of the Director-General of Lands and Survey. He further disclosed that the State government had acquired a 1.5-kilometer corridor along various highways in the state, such as the Abeokuta/Sagamu interchange, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Lagos Benin/Ore Expressway, and others, for future development projects.
Arc. Fowora emphasized that the government would no longer tolerate the indiscriminate encroachment of land without proper documentation. He also cautioned companies against buying lands from land-grabbers who may offer false assurances or fake documents.
