The Ogun State Police Command has detained a “credit officer of a microfinance bank,” Esther Hamidu, who allegedly “fled with customers’ contributions” amounting to “N1.97m.”
According to PUNCH Metro, Hamidu disappeared with the daily contributions made by the bank’s customers, which “spanned between March and December 2023.”
A branch manager in Abeokuta, the state capital, discovered the unremitted contributions and promptly reported the issue to the police.

Despite the police’s efforts to apprehend her, Hamidu managed to evade capture and “disappeared into thin air.”

However, an anonymous source within the state police command revealed that the suspect has been taken into custody.
State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest to PUNCH Metro on Saturday, stating that the suspect was apprehended in Ibadan, Oyo State’s capital, on Friday.
“Yes, she has been arrested. She has been transferred from Ibadan, where she was arrested, to Ogun State. She has confessed to the crime. She could not explain what she did with the money,” Odutola told PUNCH Metro on Sunday.
