Three bills including a bill for a law to establish the vehicle inspection services and for connected purposes, another meant for the establishment of the State judicial institute law, to serve as a centre for the professional training of staff of the State Judiciary and for related matters as well as a bill to amend the State rural access road agency law, 2022 were today passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly.
The bills with the short titles, The Vehicle inspection Services 2026,Ogun State Judicial Institute Bill, 2026, and Ogun State Rural Access Roads Agency Bill, 2026, were passed during a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Oludaisi Elemide at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The passage of the bills followed the presentations of the various reports by the chairmen of the relevant House Committees including that of Transportation, presented by assemblymen Wasiu Ayodele, Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions by Oluseun Adesanya as well as that of Water Resources, Energy and Rural Development, presented by Olakunle Sobukanla.
The trio later moved for the adoption of their various reports, seconded by assemblymen Babatunde Tella and Adegoke Adeyanju and were later supported by the whole House through a voice vote.
The bills were subsequently read and adopted clause- by- clause before the Committee of the whole House, after which the Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin took the third reading of the bills before the State lawmakers.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elemide later directed that the clean copies of the bills be forwarded to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.
Meanwhile, the State House of Assembly, paid tribute to the late 46th Onipokia of Ipokia, Oba Yisa Olusola Olaniyan, describing his passing as a significant loss to the people of Ipokia and the entire State.
The lawmakers led by the Speaker observed a minute silence in honour of the departed monarch following the announcement of his demise by a member representing Ipokia/Idiroko State Constituency, assemblyman Bisi Oyedele, who informed the House that the traditional joined his ancestors after a brief illness at the age of 55 years.
In another development, a former Speaker and member representing Ifo I State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo, presented two petitions before the Assembly.
The petitions were seeking the intervention of the Assembly over an alleged breach of peace within a community in his constituency, as well as the need to halt an alleged encroachment on agricultural land at Coker Farm Settlement in Ifo Local Government Area.
The petitions were subsequently referred to the appropriate House Committees for further legislative action.
