The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, has made it clear that those involved in the recent cult killings in Sagamu are not students or affiliated with any political party. This statement comes in the wake of the Department of State Services (DSS) arresting a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Damilare Bello, from Sagamu 1 Constituency, in connection with the cult-related violence that resulted in multiple fatalities in Sagamu over the past weekend.
The blame for the recurring cult clashes in Sagamu has been exchanged between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Commissioner Alamutu shared these remarks during a radio program on OGBC 2, Abeokuta, on Sunday. He emphasized that efforts have been made to curb the violence, and although it erupted again in Sagamu recently, he pointed out that the individuals responsible for these acts are not students or politically affiliated.
He further mentioned that the situation in Sagamu has been brought back to normalcy, and the police intend to establish a structure that will help keep the cultists at bay for a considerable period and discourage other youths from joining their ranks.
Alamutu also revealed that the police force is collaborating with the judiciary to expedite the handling of cultism cases, as it has become a significant societal challenge that needs to be addressed promptly.
