Super Falcons striker, Asisat Oshoala, has made a significant move in her football career by leaving FC Barcelona Femini to join the new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team, Bay FC, in the United States. The announcement of this exciting transfer was made by Bay FC in a statement released on Thursday.

Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, has signed a two-year deal with Bay FC, which includes an option to extend the contract by one year until 2027. The transfer involved a deal with FC Barcelona Femení of Liga F in Spain, with a transfer fee facilitating the move.

The statement from Bay FC reads, “Following the transfer, the forward was signed to a contract through the 2026 season with an option for the 2027 campaign. She will join the team and be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate. Oshoala will occupy an international roster spot.”

The club took to its official platforms to welcome the Nigerian international, referring to her by her nickname, “The Agba Baller,” which translates to “Legendary Footballer” in Yoruba. See below.

Asisat Oshoala had a remarkable five-year stint at FC Barcelona Femeni, during which she scored an impressive 107 goals in 149 appearances. Her time with the Spanish club saw her secure multiple UEFA Women’s Champions League titles, Spanish league titles, Spanish Super Cups, and the Copa de la Reina.

Bay FC, established in 2023, is a new addition to the NWSL, representing the Bay Area in San Francisco. This move marks a significant chapter in Oshoala’s career, as she joins the 14th team in the NWSL, demonstrating the continued growth and global appeal of women’s professional football.
