In a bid to bolster economic development and foster international partnerships, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Nigeria, welcomed a delegation from the United States Consulate General in Nigeria led by Mr. Will Stevens, the Consul General. The meeting took place at the governor’s office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, today, Wednesday, October 4, 2023.
During the courtesy call, Governor Abiodun expressed his keen interest in collaborating with the United States of America to further develop critical sectors in Ogun State. He highlighted the state’s notable progress through its “ISEYA” concept, which involves the strategic transformation of the state, investment in modern infrastructure, and the implementation of policies aimed at attracting businesses. These initiatives have contributed to Ogun State’s impressive achievement of becoming the state with the third-largest Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Nigeria, a significant shift from its previous reliance on federal allocations.
Governor Abiodun proudly cited several key developments that have taken place under his administration, emphasizing his commitment to making Ogun State the preferred destination for investors in Nigeria. Notably, the state is currently undertaking the construction of an Agro Cargo International Airport, situated along the Iperu-Ilishan road in the Ikenne Local Government Area. This infrastructure project is expected to enhance the exportation of both agricultural and non-agricultural goods, further boosting economic growth in the region.
The Governor also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to the American government for its unwavering support of democratic governance. He commended the United States for its commitment to democratic principles and values, highlighting the importance of this stance in promoting stability and good governance not only in Nigeria but across the globe.
The meeting between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the US Consul General, Mr. Will Stevens, underscores the importance of international collaboration in fostering economic growth and development. As Ogun State continues to make strides in various sectors, partnerships with nations like the United States can play a pivotal role in achieving its ambitious goals.
