That member of the House of Representatives, Gbajabiamila will become the new Head of the House of Representative is now a done deal. His party, the All Progressive Congress (APC) is in control of the House.

Yesterday  Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, who was the immediate past minority leader of the lower legislative chamber, representing Surulere Federal Constituency of Lagos State, emerged the sole candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the position of the new Speaker of the House of Representatives elections.

His counterpart from Borno state, Alhaji Tahir Monguno also got the endorsement of his colleagues to fly the flag of the party for the seat of the deputy speaker.

APC’ national secretary, Malam Mai Mala Buni ,who was the returning officer of the shadow election, declared that Gbajabiamila emerged winner with 154 votes as against 3 votes scored by Dogara, his main challenger.

There were Four invalid votes. 161 members voted for the speakership nominee of the party. For the deputy speaker seat flag bearer, where 183 voted, Monguno scored 153 votes.

The emergence of Femi Gbajabiamila, did not come without an incidence, as his major contender, Mr Yakubu Dogara and a some of his supporters strongly opposed the procedure used to pick the party’s candidate in the House Speaker election billed to hold on Tuesday next week.

Dogara was the immediate chairman of the committee on House services, alongside some of his supporters numbering 14 were sighted walking out of the international conference centre venue, where the mock election held.

The APC’s national Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, deputy national Chairman, national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, north, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, his counterpart from the north, David Babachir, an engineer, the national women leader, Hajia Aisha Tijjani and national vice chairman south, Segun Oni were on hand to witness the election.

  1. Gbajabiamila deserve it. He was minority leader in last Assembly and performed in that position creditably. He has been consistent. He is very articulate, pragmatic and loyal to his party.. Congrats in advance Femo!
