Ijebu Ode LG Chairman slams residents’ ultimatum on federal allocations

The Chairman of the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area, who also holds the position of Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in the state, responded to allegations of a N10.8 billion diversion of LG funds, as claimed by Adedayo. He vehemently denied any such wrongdoing, emphasizing that Governor Abiodun had consistently allowed local governments to utilize their allocated funds.

In a noteworthy incident captured in a viral video, Emilola-Gazal, alongside other local government chairmen in the state, reportedly prostrated and sought forgiveness from Governor Abiodun in light of Adedayo’s outburst. During this meeting, the chairmen openly acknowledged the distribution of funds among local governments. In May, N4.5 billion was shared among the 20 local governments, followed by N4.4 billion in June, with July witnessing another N4.4 billion distribution. In August, N5.2 billion was shared. Additionally, they confirmed that Governor Abiodun had provided supplementary allocations of N1 billion monthly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the chairmen acknowledged their financial challenges stemming from insufficient funds from the federation accounts. This had left them unable to fulfill their mandatory Pay As You Earn (PAYE) obligations to the state, resulting in substantial outstanding debts owed to the state government.
