Some alleged hoodlums have set fire to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office at Iyana Mortuary in Abeokuta south, the capital of Ogun State.
According to the DAILY POST, the hoodlums scaled the outer gate, stormed inside the grounds, and set fire to the INEC building from the back.
They were claimed to have drenched bread with petrol and thrown it into the building at various angles to light up the INEC office.
Our correspondent learned that the institution’s security guard, Azeez Hamzat, placed a distress call to the police about 1 a.m., claiming that the building was on fire.
The Ibara division police were alleged to have dispatched detectives to the scene while also notifying fire fighters, who raced to the location to put out the fire.
The conflagration was said to have affected the store, the Registration Area Officer’s office, and the conference room.
According to a source, non-sensitive objects were also harmed by the fire.
“No one was killed or injured in the fire,” the DAILY POST learned.

Meanwhile, Niyi Ijalaye, the Ogun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, has confirmed the occurrence and described it as alarming.
“It is correct that our office was set on fire. The police are investigating. I do not know what to say. I’m in shock myself. We called the police and other security agencies at night. The fire brigade put the situation under control. The level of damage is still being assessed.
“It is very shocking and untoward. The security agencies are doing their very best. We are meeting again later today to come up with other strategies (toward securing our facilities),” Ijalaye said.
Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting this article.
