Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo extended his congratulations to President Bola Tinubu following the verdict of the presidential election petition tribunal, which upheld Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election. The tribunal, led by Haruna Tsammani, dismissed petitions filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) challenging Tinubu’s victory, deeming them “devoid of merit” in a unanimous decision.
In a statement released on Saturday and signed by his spokesperson, Mohammed Braimah, Osinbajo lauded the tribunal’s ruling as a significant win for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and the rule of law. He also highlighted the strength of Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that all parties involved had adhered faithfully to the electoral process and turned to the courts in the event of disputes.
Osinbajo’s statement read, “Congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, and our great party, the All Progressives Congress, on the judicial affirmation of the victory at the Presidential election of February 25th, 2023. This ruling is a great victory for Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and its rule of law. The practice of democracy in our nation has been further strengthened by the fact that all parties faithfully followed the electoral process according to the law and relied on our courts in the event of dispute. Our Nation now needs all of us, to work together to address our challenges and to deliver the realization of the incredible potentials of our Nation.”
