Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has ordered security forces to begin a large-scale search for the kidnappers involved in Sunday’s incident on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode expressway.
On Sunday night, around 9 p.m., several people were kidnapped by gunmen in multiple incidents near the Police Area Command and Ilishan City Gate on the busy road. The exact number of people taken is still unknown.
Some unconfirmed reports suggest that the kidnappers had insider information. They targeted foreign nationals who had just arrived in Nigeria the same day. It’s believed that the kidnappers followed them to the location of the crime.
In a statement on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun declared that Ogun State would not become a haven for kidnappers. He vowed to find and punish those responsible.
The governor mentioned that all security agencies, including the police, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun, So Safe Corps, and local hunters, are searching for the kidnappers. They are using various tools, including drones, in their efforts.
Governor Abiodun reassured residents that their safety is a top priority. He emphasized that the current administration has invested significantly in securing the state.

“After Sunday’s kidnapping in Ilishan, we want to reassure everyone that we are taking strong action to find the kidnappers and safely bring back the victims.
“Our security forces have launched a thorough search and are working hard to catch the kidnappers. Extra security measures and patrols have also been put in place in the affected area and throughout the state to prevent more incidents.
“We understand that this situation has caused worry and fear, but we want to assure everyone that Ogun State is still a safe place to live, work, and visit. The government is committed to maintaining peace and will continue to protect everyone’s lives and property,” Governor Abiodun said.
