Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has announced her return to the movie industry after years away from the public eye, saying she recovered from a prolonged illness through divine healing.
The actress made the announcement on Saturday during a thanksgiving programme in Lagos, where she shared her testimony and reflected on her journey to recovery.
According to Abubakar, she had been away from the spotlight for about 13 years due to health challenges but is now ready to resume her career.
“I am here. After 13 years, I am standing proudly because of what God has done in my life,” she said.

The actress revealed that her comeback would mark a new chapter in her career, as she intends to focus on producing faith-based movies.
“I’m coming back as a producer. I want to make movies that teach about God and inspire people rather than glorify rituals,” she said.
Abubakar also called for greater unity, compassion and support among practitioners in the Nigerian film industry.
“What Nollywood lacks is love, empathy and trust. We need to stand by one another because one person’s pain should be everybody’s pain,” she added.
Speaking at the event, Apostle Queen Belemzy said she first connected with Abubakar after watching videos of the actress online earlier this year.
According to the cleric, she later prayed with Abubakar virtually and continued ministering to her, leading to what she described as the actress’ healing.
Belemzy disclosed plans to take Abubakar on international revival tours to share her testimony.
“We have held revival meetings in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos, and we intend to visit other countries so people can see what God has done,” she said.
Also speaking, actress Queenette Agbor described Abubakar’s recovery as inspiring and urged members of Nollywood to embrace unity.
“There is too much division in the industry. If we unite and genuinely support one another, Nollywood will achieve even greater heights,” she said.
The event’s organiser and Abubakar’s publicist, Cornelius Udofia, who is also the Director of Communications of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Lagos State Chapter, said the thanksgiving was organised to celebrate the actress’ recovery and give thanks to God.
Udofia added that the programme was also intended to encourage practitioners in the entertainment industry.
Chairperson of the AGN Lagos State Chapter, Funmilayo Mary-Edwards, congratulated Abubakar on her recovery and urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in their faith.
“We are here to thank God with her. Her story reminds us that with God, all things are possible,” she said.
