Police authority in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have arrested a robbery suspect, Monday Alo. Monday, an indigene of Ebonyi State was arrested after his gang of armed robbers snatched a Toyota Camry from a victim.
Monday was arrested at the weekend on the Sagamu/Ikene Road while the gang operated.
The police team that arrested was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Sagamu Division, Okiki Agunbiade.
Reports say the robbers, on sighting the policemen, allegedly jumped into an already snatched unregistered Toyota Camry car and drove towards the Lagos-Sagamu expressway interchange. They were, however, forced to abandon the car and ran into the bush when the police chase closed in on them.
The area was cordoned off and combed by the policemen after which Monday was arrested with a sledgehammer.
The Ogun State police PRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the car owner, who sustained injuries to the head, was taken to the hospital with Monday who was mobbed.
Report quoting Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta for further investigation.
