Ayodele Falomo, 56, and his son Ayoola, 23, have been charged by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly attacking a doctor over the loss of a family member.
The two were charged with assaulting the victim, Dr. Pelumi Somorin, who works at the Federal Medical Center, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, in front of the Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Shortly after their female relative was diagnosed with heart failure and later declared dead, the two accused people are said to have slapped the doctor.
The defendants were charged with assault and conspiracy on two separate counts.
On the counts, they entered a not guilty plea.
At the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, the defendants committed the crimes on December 20, according to the prosecution’s attorney, Inspector Olaide Rawlings.
The spouse and son of the deceased, who are the accused, allegedly attacked Somorin while blaming her for their family member’s demise.
According to her, the offense broke sections 516 and 355 of the Ogun State Criminal Laws of 2006.
The doctor killed their family member due to negligence, according to the father and son.
They claimed they were incensed by the doctor’s alleged lack of challenge, adding that she was holding her phone in her hand as the deceased writhed in anguish.
Ayoola claimed that he threatened to photograph the doctor and post it online, supporting his father’s account.
He claims that she dragged the phone behind him to prevent him from capturing her photo.
The Magistrate, I.O. Abudu, provided the parties a chance to settle the dispute peacefully during the court session.
However, the defendants told the court that they had sent letters of apology to the hospital’s administration, the police, and the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association.
While mediating the dispute, Magistrate Abudu claimed that the defendants’ apologetic letter demonstrated their repentance.
The accused were then granted bail in the amount of N200,000 apiece with one surety in the same amount by Abudu.
The case was postponed till mention on February 16, 2023, by the judge.
