Dapo Abiodun demolishes Daniel’s N1bn building in Ijebu Ode

On Sunday morning, the Governor Dapo Abiodun administration initiated the demolition of a five-story building known as DATKEM Plaza, owned by Olufunke Daniel, the wife of former governor Gbenga Daniel. The demolition took place in Ogun State, and parts of the building had already been dismantled by the time reporters visited the site.

Neighbors reported that the demolition began around 3 a.m. and was carried out with police protection. The demolition reportedly came with only three days’ notice from the state government.

According to Olusegun Lawal, the Project Manager and Developer of the property, the state government cited reasons for the demolition, including inadequate parking space, muster point, and airspace. Lawal asserted that the building had no structural defects, and all necessary government approvals had been obtained. He argued that there was enough parking space, muster points, and airspace for the building and that it met safety requirements.

The third floor of the building reportedly houses the Ogun East Senatorial Office of former governor Gbenga Daniel.

It’s worth noting that Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Governor Gbenga Daniel have had political differences, despite both being members of the All Progressives Congress (APC). These differences have been a source of tension in Ogun State politics.

The demolition has generated outrage on social media, with some expressing concerns about the timing and motive behind it. Segun Showunmi, a governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), wrote an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to intervene in the situation and questioning the actions of Governor Abiodun.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Lekan Adeniran, mentioned that the state government would issue a statement regarding the demolition when contacted for comment.
