Advocacy for Peace and Good Governance, a civil society organization, has expressed its appreciation for the decision reached by the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal regarding the gubernatorial election held on March 18 in the state.
The tribunal, in a unanimous decision on Saturday, upheld Governor Dapo Abiodun’s victory and dismissed all the claims presented by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in their petitions.
The organization described this verdict as a triumph for democracy and a confirmation of the people’s choice. In a statement signed by its national coordinator, Waheed Sulaimon, in Abuja, the group characterized the judgment as clear and unambiguous, reflecting the actual events in Ogun State on March 18, 2023.
The organization acknowledged that the tribunal’s decision was based on the presented facts, evidence, and the credibility of the electoral process. It commended the judiciary for its impartiality in handling election-related cases throughout the country, emphasizing the trust that Nigerians have consistently placed in this branch of government.
The group urged all parties involved to accept the tribunal’s ruling and collaborate with Governor Dapo Abiodun in advancing the state’s development. Additionally, it called on all stakeholders in the Ogun State project to support the governor’s efforts to make the Gateway State a leader in Nigeria in terms of economic prosperity, political stability, and social cohesion.
Furthermore, the organization praised Governor Abiodun for his dedication to good governance, his commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, and his resolute determination to rapidly develop the state.
