China’s artificial intelligence (AI) market recorded increased consumer interest during the week-long National Day holiday, as shoppers explored smart gadgets and AI-powered devices across the country.
In Shanghai, popular products included AI companion robots, smart glasses and 3D printers, with families showing interest in devices designed for entertainment, education and everyday convenience. Similar trends were reported in Hangzhou and Beijing, where technology stores attracted large crowds.
Retail data from Chinese retailer Suning.com showed that foot traffic at its flagship stores increased by 50 per cent year-on-year between October 1 and 7, while sales of AI-equipped home appliances rose by more than 40 per cent. Smartwatches, AI glasses and action cameras also recorded gains.
The growth comes amid China’s expanding AI industry, supported by domestic AI models, rising technology development and government policies promoting AI-powered products and services.
An industry research report indicated that China had more than 140 humanoid robot developers in 2025, with shipments reaching 14,400 units, representing 84.7 per cent of the global market.
In June, eight government departments, including the Ministry of Commerce, issued guidance to promote AI-enabled consumption. A subsequent smart-home action plan also allowed local authorities to determine subsidy categories and standards under the 2026 trade-in policy.
Suning.com Vice President Fan Chunyan said, “Consumer uptake of AI products is accelerating from a phase of novelty toward mass adoption,” adding that “Demand for smart devices, immersive experiences and ongoing services will continue to rise.”
