A popular Nigerian socialite, Bisi Edionseri, also known as Cash Madam, has passed away at the age of 89.
One of her sons, Adebayo Adebowale, announced in a family statement that she died on Sunday after a brief illness.
Cash Madam was a well-known figure in Nigeria’s social circles for decades, admired for her fashion sense, style, beauty, business achievements, and lavish lifestyle. She earned the nickname “Cash Madam” from Juju music legend Chief Commander Ebenezer Obey in the 1980s. She had been wealthy since the late 1970s and was recognized for her generosity toward musicians.
In 2004, the late Sikiru Ayinde Barrister honored her with a 47-minute track titled “Cash Madam” in his album Reality.
Praising his mother, her son stated: “Cash Madam gained prominence for her entrepreneurial acumen as she would wheel the significant sales proceeds—making up coins and notes—to the branch of Barclays Bank (now Union Bank) and was specially allocated a room and a group of cashiers to count.”
Funeral Arrangements
The funeral, following Islamic rites, took place on Monday at 4 p.m. at her home in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ibara, Abeokuta.
Her son added: “Her life was a shining example of grace, dignity, and unwavering faith. Princess Edionseri touched the lives of many through her wisdom, kindness, and dedication to her family and community. She taught us the importance of love, resilience, and faith in Allah, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.”
As the family mourns her loss, they also celebrate her extraordinary life, adding: “Her laughter, warmth, and the values she instilled will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us as we navigate life without her physical presence.”
