In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun on Friday condoled with the family and friends of the former editor of the Sunday Times, Mr. Gbolabo Ogunsanwo.
The witty columnist died early Friday.
President Muhammadu Buhari has also joined family, friends, and the media industry to mourn celebrated journalist and former Editor of Sunday Times, Mr. Gbolabo Ogunsanwo.
The president recalled the height to which the deceased took Sunday Times in the 1970s, printing an unprecedented one million copies per week, and says he left his footprints on the sands of time.
The late Ogunsanwo, President Buhari added, would also be remembered for his weekly column, which was full of wisdom, wit, humour, and pointed the way to a better nation.
The departed journalist spent the latter part of his life as a clergyman, a fact that the President sees as a perfect blend of the secular and the spiritual, and which he commended to those coming behind.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Sunday, President Buhari prayed that the soul of Ogunsanwo would rest in peace.
The Ogun State Governor in his condolence message to the family of the ace journalist described the late Gbolabo Ogunsanwo as the epitome of excellence. He said Ogunsanwo “really exemplifies excellence, courage and forthrightness that our State is known for. Indeed, he was a role model that nurtured many reporters who have also become legends in the pen-pushing and leaders in other spheres.”
He lamented, the rich experiences and knowledge of Gbolabo Ogunsanwo will be sorely missed.
He also prayed that the almighty God will receive the soul of the departed, and comfort his family.
Ogunsanwo who was in his late seventies died on Friday.
He edited the Sunday Times during the Babatunde Jose era and was popular with his column Life with Gbolabo Ogunsanwo.
Ogunsanwo was one of those swept aside following the take over of the majority shares in the Daily Times by the then military government. He went on to found a magazine The Premier.
