Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has expressed his belief that Nigeria is in a dire state. This statement comes following the Supreme Court’s dismissal of his appeal challenging the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the February presidential election, citing a lack of merit.
The Supreme Court, in its lead judgment delivered by Justice Inyang Okoro, declined to consider academic records from the Chicago State University, which Atiku intended to use as fresh evidence to support his allegation of certificate forgery against President Tinubu. All other justices on the panel concurred with the lead judgment, thus dismissing Atiku’s appeals.
During a press conference in Abuja, Atiku stated that the real loser in this case is not him but Nigeria. He expressed concern that if the Supreme Court’s decision suggests that crime is condoned and should be rewarded, it would be detrimental to Nigeria’s future, regardless of who occupies the presidential office.
