Reno Omokri, a former spokesperson for the presidency, has advised those celebrating on social media that Atiku Abubakar has no grounds for jubilation. He asserts that President Bola Tinubu did indeed graduate from Chicago State University (CSU), as confirmed by the university’s registrar, Mr. Caleb Westberg.
After Tinubu’s certificates were released to Atiku by CSU, he addressed a press conference in Abuja. Many Atiku and Peter Obi supporters on social media expressed joy, believing Tinubu had been exposed.
Omokri cautioned Atiku and Obi’s supporters against rejoicing, emphasizing that Tinubu’s graduation was affirmed under oath by the school’s registrar. Omokri emphasized that the Supreme Court would prioritize this legal testimony over public opinion.
He drew parallels to a similar situation with General Buhari, whose certificates were lost during detention. Despite presenting a replacement certificate with errors, no court removed him. Omokri explained that it is the reality of graduation that validates the certificate, likening it to a marriage where the registry registration is what matters, not the ceremonial church document.
Despite his personal feelings towards Tinubu, Omokri stressed his commitment to the principles of law and urged Nigerians to read the deposition transcript. He explained that Tinubu’s lawyers only need to prove that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the current President, graduated from Chicago State University, which would legitimize the presented certificate.
Omokri, who holds a Masters degree in Law, affirmed his dedication to truth and the separation of emotions from logic, concluding that he would not deny facts based on public pressure.
