The State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Thursday unveiled the names of delegates to represent the state at the proposed national conference.
The Governor, while unveiling the delegates in Abeokuta, the state capital, called on them to vigorously pursue three major agenda, urging them to argue for the decentralization of the police.
The delegates are Senator Iyabo Anisulowo, Chief Olanihun Ajayi, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Senator Biyi Durojaye, Professor Titi Filani and Barrister Bisi Adegbuyi.
The other two agenda the Governor wants the delegates to focus on were devolution of power and re-negotiation for the essence of amalgamation of the country, adding: “We as a state need true federalism, devolution of power and decentralisation of the Nigeria police, among other several requests”
Elder stateman, Chief Olanihun Ajayi who spoke on behalf of the delegates said it was important for them to realise that those going there are going to try to correct the serious error committed by the British.
According to him, “the problem really and truly is that Nigeria was constructed contrary to political geometry, that is why we have not arrived as a country because if we have leave together for 100 years and yet there’s no stability, there’s no concord, there’s no harmony, there’s no progress, those other countries like Brazil, Indian, China and Russia who were in the same bracket as we in 1960 are now far, far above us and we are far below them, why?
Chief Olanihun added that “It is because of the failure to observe political geometry, but we pray and hope that when we get there, God being our helper, we will, as Nigerians unitedly and in the spirit of give and take, arrive at solution that will bring peace and progress to this country.”
