The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has killed more than 40 terrorists during airstrikes carried out in parts of Borno State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the airstrikes targeted terrorist hideouts at Musarram in the Tumbuns general area and along the Azir axis.
Ejodame said the operations were conducted on Thursday, January 25, and Friday, January 16, after intelligence reports revealed that terrorists were gathering in canoes and planning attacks along the Baga and Fish Dam axis.
He explained that surveillance aircraft spotted about 10 canoes carrying more than 40 suspected terrorists at the location. The terrorists were then engaged in multiple airstrikes, which threw them into confusion.
Some of the fighters who attempted to escape were tracked to nearby tree cover and attacked, while others who later regrouped at an assembly point were also targeted and neutralised.
Ejodame said feedback from ground troops and local residents confirmed that the operation successfully destroyed the terrorist gathering and stopped the planned attacks.
The NAF spokesperson added that further airstrikes were carried out on Friday, January 16, along the Azir and Musarram areas, where several more terrorists were killed.

He noted that the operations were conducted by NAF aircraft under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI in response to hostile terrorist activities in the affected areas.
