Afrobeats singer Seun Kuti has reacted to Wizkid fans over the nickname “Big Bird,” saying the name belongs to him and Wizkid should choose his own.
The issue started during Seun’s Instagram live when a Wizkid fan asked him to stop using the nickname, claiming Wizkid is the “Biggest Bird.” Seun refused and said he has used the name long before Wizkid.
According to Seun, Wizkid “stole” the nickname and should be more original. He questioned why he should change a name he has used for years.
Seun also criticised Wizkid’s team, including DJ Tunez, for not stopping fans from comparing Wizkid to his late father, Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He said the team enjoys the comparison instead of correcting it, which allows fans to disrespect Fela’s legacy.
Seun said if he meets DJ Tunez again, he will confront him and will not even greet him. He added that he recently received $120,000 simply because he is Fela’s son, saying his father is still blessing him even after death. He used this to stress how great Fela’s achievements were.
He made it clear that his anger is not directed at Wizkid himself, but at fans who keep dragging Fela’s name into online arguments. He told Wizkid fans to stop mentioning Fela in their discussions.
Seun also challenged Wizkid’s fans to do something meaningful instead of insulting people online. He suggested that if over one million Wizkid fans contributed ₦1,000 each, they could raise ₦1 billion to build a school in Surulere in Wizkid’s name.
Finally, Seun rejected claims that Wizkid is the “New Fela,” insisting that Fela’s legacy is unique and cannot be compared to anyone else.
