Police Debunk Viral Ai-generated Video Claiming Imminent Attack In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that claims some communities and tertiary institutions in the state are facing an imminent attack.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, said the video was artificially generated and misleading.

Odutola explained that a forensic review by the police cybercrime and intelligence units showed the footage was created with artificial intelligence by unknown individuals. She added that the content did not come from any recognised terrorist group or operational cell.

According to her, preliminary checks revealed that the earliest version of the video first appeared on a foreign online platform about three months ago before resurfacing in various edited forms across social media.

She emphasised that the police have no credible intelligence indicating any planned attack on communities, schools, or public institutions in Ogun State.

Odutola urged residents to stay calm, stop sharing unverified content, and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.

She noted that the Commissioner of Police has ordered increased surveillance, intensified patrols, and stronger collaboration with other security agencies to maintain peace across the state.
