The Ogun State Police Command says its officers stopped a robbery attempt in Sagamu early Wednesday and recovered the car used by the suspects.
The spokesperson for the command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said in a statement that officers from the Sakura Police Division acted quickly after getting a distress call.
According to her, at about 1:45 a.m., the police received a report from the CDC Chairman of Okearedi, Araromi, near the Sagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway, that about five armed men were trying to break into a house in the area.
Odutola said the police team immediately went to the scene. When the robbers saw the patrol vehicle, they ran in different directions, and the officers chased them.
She said,
“The suspects’ car, a black Lexus GS 350 with registration number OGUN TTD 452 TT, was found at the entrance of the community. A search of the car led to the discovery of fireworks (knockouts) believed to have been planned for use as a distraction during the robbery.”
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, praised the officers for their quick and professional response. He said the command has increased security patrols and deployed more officers to known trouble spots across the state as part of end-of-year safety measures.
Ogunlowo assured residents that the police would continue to maintain strong visibility and respond promptly to emergencies. He also advised people to stay alert, especially when entering their homes late at night, and to light up dark areas around their houses to discourage criminals.

In a related case, PUNCH Online earlier reported that in June 2025, the Ogun State Amotekun Corps also prevented a robbery in Akinale town, Ewekoro area, after responding quickly to a distress call around 1:20 a.m.
During that incident, a 28-year-old man, Opeyemi Olusanya, was shot in the upper part of his left leg. The Deputy Commander of Amotekun, Tajudeen Bakare, said officers from the Ewekoro Command rushed to the scene after receiving the alert and successfully stopped the attack.
