The 2025 Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) celebrated outstanding achievements in African filmmaking, honoring talented actors and filmmakers across the continent.
The 21st edition of the awards was held on Sunday at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja GRA, Lagos, bringing together some of Africa’s best movie stars and creators.
The movie “3 Cold Dishes,” a multilingual thriller produced by Burna Boy and Osas Ighodaro, was one of the biggest winners of the night. It won Best Nigerian Film and Best Young/Promising Actor for Ruby Akubueze.
Lateef Adedimeji won Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in “Lisabi: The Uprising.”
From South Africa, “The Heart Is a Muscle” won several major awards, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, and Best Debut Feature for its director, Imran Hamdulay.
Burkina Faso’s “Katanga: Dance of the Scorpions” also stood out, taking home Best Film in an African Language, Best Screenplay, and Best Costume Design.
The ceremony paid tribute to African film professionals who passed away between January and November 2025 and featured exciting musical performances.
