There was confusion in the Panseke area of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Friday morning when an ex-convict stabbed a police officer in the forehead.
According to reports, the incident began when the ex-convict arrived in Panseke on a motorcycle and tried to seize an AK-47 rifle from a police officer stationed at an armoured vehicle post.
Eyewitnesses said the attacker intended to use the rifle to shoot another police officer, whom he accused of having an affair with his wife and being responsible for his previous imprisonment.

“When he couldn’t take the gun, he pulled out a knife from his trousers and stabbed the officer he accused,” an eyewitness said. “Other policemen quickly intervened, overpowered him, and tied his hands and legs before taking him away.”
The violent scene drew a crowd of onlookers before order was restored.
It was later recalled that in January 2025, the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps, arrested the same ex-convict, identified as 54-year-old Adelani Oriyomi, in the Kere area of Obada-Oko, Abeokuta, for allegedly attempting to exhume a human skull.
Commander of the Corps, Soji Ganzallo, confirmed the arrest at the time through the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf. Ganzallo stated that Oriyomi was caught while digging up a grave after previously exhuming another skull near his home.
Oriyomi, who reportedly spent over six years at the Oba Correctional Centre for a similar crime, was handed over to the police for further investigation.
Authorities say the latest attack highlights the need for continuous security vigilance and monitoring of repeat offenders in the state.
