Suspected members of a rival cult gang brutally murdered three individuals in the Ijoko community, located in the Ota area of Ogun State, leaving their lifeless bodies within an abandoned building. This shocking incident transpired on a Saturday and was widely perceived by residents as the grim aftermath of renewed clashes between rival cult groups.
The attackers exhibited extreme brutality by severing the left hands of the victims. Two of the deceased were later identified as suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity, a notorious secret society known for its involvement in criminal activities.
Confirming the harrowing events, SP Omolola Odutola, the Ogun Police spokesperson, issued an official statement on the matter. According to her, a community leader from Abibatun Toronbi Community in Ijoko, Ogun State, reported the gruesome incident to the local Ijoko Police Post.
The community leader recounted that on that fateful Saturday, three unidentified young men were discovered brutally murdered within an abandoned building, which appeared to serve as a hideout for criminals within their community. It was a horrific scene, marked by the mutilation of the victims’ left hands.
Two of the victims were identified as Alias Memory and Rilwan, who was a known suspect associated with the Eiye Confraternity, and had been on the police’s radar for various criminal activities. The corpses were subsequently removed from the scene and transported to the morgue, pending further investigation, while the area remained under heightened police surveillance.
Law enforcement agencies wasted no time in initiating a comprehensive investigation into these killings, with the invaluable assistance of local informants. This led to the identification of the prime suspects as members of a rival cult group, the Eiye Confraternity.
Ongoing efforts aim to gather more intelligence about the activities of these cult groups and their potential connections to other criminal acts in the region. The police are resolutely committed to bringing all those involved in cultism and related crimes to justice, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
In an appeal to the community, SP Omolola Odutola encouraged residents to continue providing crucial information to the police to aid in further investigations and the apprehension of other individuals involved in criminal activities in the area.
