In the run-up to the 2023 general election, the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) announced plans to establish an additional 1,832 polling stations in Ogun. He said this was part of efforts to expand access to votes during the 2023 general election. INEC’s Ogun’s Permanent Election Commissioner, Prof. Abdulgani Raji, said this at a stakeholder meeting in Abeokuta on Monday to expand voter access to polling stations and start registration. ongoing voters in the state of Raji after completing the number of constituencies in the country will increase to 5,042. Describing the proposed expansion as “long overdue”, DEC added that it was informed by insufficient polling stations and difficulties in accessing some of the existing constituencies due to long distances and rugged terrain. He added that the expansion was needed because of the emergence of new settlements and villas in the state and the need to avoid overcrowding polling stations during elections.
