The political landscape of Ogun State is currently dominated by the issue of Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi’s eligibility or otherwise to contest the 2019 Ogun Governorship Election.
It all began with the incumbent governor’s declaration earlier in the year that Ogun West Senatorial District is the next in line to produce the next governor of the state, come 2019.

Senator Adeola has shown his interest in the election. The Senator is currently representing Lagos West in the Nigeria Senate. Amosun, the incumbent governor has, however, kick against the Senator’s ambition.
It was reported severally on both online and offline news channels that Amosun said, “It will not be under my watch that a non-indigene will be governor after me. They came to me before with Isaga-Orile and I said it is under Abeokuta North. They moved from one place to another.”
“It is a covenant between me and my God, I will be handing over to someone from Ogun West but other senatorial districts are also qualified to contest. But we shouldn’t see them as enemies, it should not appear that we are taking anyone for granted. Our people in Ogun East can come out to contest, in Ogun Central we have agreed, but if anybody comes out from the central, I will confront him frontally.

“We will be tactical and strategic but we shouldn’t pay attention to those that are not necessary. I am free to take my position just like every other person. I am not God, we are human but where we are today, I am supporting people from Ogun West. It will be an insult to us in this state when we have sons and daughters, no ‘Atohunrinwa’ (stranger) will come, they will wreck Ogun State if we allow it.
“You can’t wake up one day and be moving from one place to the other, when it is time for campaign, they will not even come because it will be too hot for them to handle.”
It’s alleged that Adeola was the person the governor was referring to as ‘Atohunrinwa’ (stranger or non-indigene).
Adeola on his part has vowed to go ahead to contest whether or not the incumbent governor supports him. He said he is from Ogun West and therefore qualified to contest.

His kinsmen have also thrown their weights behind him. They said he is not a foreigner but an original “son-of-the-soil”, a full indigene of Ogun State.
According to them Adeola, popularly known as Yayi “is our son and thus qualified to vie for the governorship of the state in 2019.”
Their testimonial came barely a week after the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, after meeting with some Yewa elders in his office, vowed that a “foreigner” would not succeed him.
The Isaga Descendants after a meeting on Sunday in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area, faulted Yayi’s critics and adversaries, including the Governor for calling him a ‘stranger’.
A former Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Chief Lawrence Osayemi, who spoke on behalf of the group said Adeola is a bona fide son of Yewa in Ogun State.
Osayemi, who is the Balogun of Isaga and chairman of the occasion, said the group had unanimously adopted and endorsed him as the consensus governorship candidate of the state.
He said, “Senator Adeola’s origin in Yewa is never in doubt, even though his detractors and adversaries call him various names ranging from ‘Tekobo’ through ‘Atohunrinwa’ to ‘foreigner.’
“But we know he is a bona fide Isaga son, whose great-grandfather, Oleg migrated from Isaga-Orile, a Yewa town in the present Abeokuta North Local Government Area to Ago Isaga, Pahayi, after the Dahomean invasion of Isaga-Orile on March 15, 1862.

“The invasion left the town devastated and there were family descendants, which led to the founding of so many Isaga settlements across Yewa, Abeokuta, Lagos and the Republic of Benin.”
He said the Isaga people would support Adeola’s aspiration.
Remember the Governor said, “they came to me before with Isaga-Orile and I said it is under Abeokuta North. They moved from one place to another.”
Isaga Orile being under Abeokuta is therefore under Ogun Central from which Amosun is from and therefore not qualify to contest in 2019. Ago Isaga, Pahayi is in Ogun West.
So, which applies to Yayi? Isaga Orile, Ogun Central or Ago Isaga, Ogun West or Lagos West?
