Ijebu Ode – The Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State has established 16 HIV/AIDS screening facilities to provide free screening for the people living with the scourge.

Mrs Caroline Oladunjoye, the Manager, Action Committee on HIV/AIDS (LACA) in the council, made this known at a sensitisation programme organised by for health officers in Ijebu-Ode, recently.
She said research had shown that more than 7,000 people in the country were contacting the virus daily due to lack of knowledge and proper orientation.
Oladunjoye also said that more than 3,000 of the figures were young people, while over 3.5 million people were living with the virus globally.
She explained that the council had intensified efforts on the prevention and detection of the virus in the area.
The council chairman, Mr Razak Daddah, said that his administration would not relent at tackling the spread of the scourge in the local government.
He said that the spread of the virus could be better controlled with the maximum support of the members of the public.
“The high rate at which this disease is being spread can best be reduced to the barest minimum only if there can be maximum support and cooperation from government, community leaders, members of the public and non-governmental organisation,” he said.
