Her Majesty, Queen Naomi Silekunola, has declared her divorce from Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife.
On Thursday, she declared the end of her three-year marriage in a message posted on her verified Instagram handle and Facebook page.
She claimed that she tried to make the relationship work, but that the monarch’s public identity is at odds with “his true self.”
“I did my best to endure and make it work; many times, I smiled through the struggle,” the fair-skinned ex-queen wrote, “but I have finally realised I had only one assignment, my son, and when God is done, He is done.” He appointed Saul as king, and when He was through, He told the prophet Samuel, “I have moved on.” Religion was never a problem between us; please see my interview on News Central TV for more information. Instead, His Majesty has a picture he wants the public to view and perceive him as, as well as another that is his genuine personality.”
“Today I announce the beginning of a new dawn and the end of a chapter,” the evangelist declared. Today, I am a mother to God’s one-of-a-kind gift. I am no longer a captive to my perfectionist thoughts. I am now announcing that I will no longer be referred to as the Ooni of Ife’s wife or the Queen of Ile-Ife, but as the Queen of the People and the mother of my lovely Prince.”
In response to these charges, Silekunola stated that her “decision to move on was not influenced by the fact that his majesty is married to another queen.”
“As many would like to believe, I was the only married wife to him throughout our life as a couple,” she continued. There were side attractions, but they were never a problem.
“I never approached him with any revelation of any sort, as many believed he contacted me first and made his proposal known several months later.
“The marriage was not an arranged one, as many have misconstrued. I never knew the prophetess said to have introduced me to him. Instead, he introduced her to me after I agreed to marry him. I was only being polite out of respect for him.
“I have never been pregnant all my life before Tadenikawo; my son is my first ever pregnancy with medical reports to back it up. The girl who is said to be my daughter is my niece.”
The Ooni previously divorced Edo-born Zaynab-Otiti Obanor, whom he wedded as a monarch on March 16, 2016, in 2017. Obanor’s marriage to the monarch lasted 17 months before their divorce.
In 2018, he married Silekunola, and the couple had a son, Tadenikawo.
As a youth, the 47-year-old king had a daughter with Omolara Olatubosun. Olatubosun gave birth to Princess Adeola Ogunwusi, but there have recently been counter-claims between the Ooni and Olatubosun regarding who was responsible for their daughter’s upbringing.
