Ogun will benefit from a $ 36.15 billion information and communications technology (ICT) project designed to accelerate its digital economy plans.
The project, implemented in partnership with 21st Century Technologies, will help state governments implement the Country Digital Economy Empowerment Project (OGDEP). The 21st century has invested nearly $ 75 million in the project in the hope that the initiative will boost Ogun state’s economy by an additional $ 100 billion.
The mega project was launched last weekend by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in the presence of the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, marked. Deputy Chair of the Nigerian Communications Committee (NCC), Prof. Umar Garba Danbata, as well as representatives of the National Assembly and other players in the industry.
At the rejection ceremony, Osinbajo praised the state of Ogun for its bold move in paving the way for the country’s comprehensive digital economy.
The Vice President, who implemented the project, recognized the urgent need to democratize Internet access in the country, adding that digital technology is the future of all aspects of human life.
He said: “This project is an important component of the president’s goal of bringing broadband to everyone by 2023. That goal is now embedded in the economic sustainability plan.
“In another demonstration of the government’s commitment, the Federal Communications and Digital Economy Ministry launched the National Broadband Plan, which aims to achieve data download speeds of at least 25 Mbit / s in urban areas and 10 Mbit / s in Nigeria. Ensure rural areas with at least 90 effective coverage. percent of the population by 2025 at an affordable price.
Osinbajo also praised 21st century technology for its extraordinary dedication to the project, adding that it would revolutionize every aspect of Ogun’s socio-economic life.
In his remarks, Vale Ajisebutu, Vice Chairman / Chief Executive Officer of 21st Century Technologies Limited, emphasized that the initiative will enable all Ogun companies and residents to work digitally with optical infrastructure, knowledge and marketing as well as network infrastructure.
Governor Dapo Abiodun said OGDEP’s strategy was to provide broadband connections to every corner of Ogun.
