The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ogun State chapter, has accused some former decampees who returned to the party, of trying to hijack it.
The state chairman of the party, Bayo Dayo, made the claim on Saturday while speaking with journalists to review the party ward delegates’ congresses across all the 236 wards.
He pointed out that majority of the party chieftains planning to hijack it were nowhere to be found almost five years ago when the party was facing a major crisis.
“No doubt about that some people are already planning to hijack the primaries because when you see somebody having 1,000 forms in three batches bringing it to the secretariat, you’ll know that something is behind that,” he said.
The chairman refused to mention names but said part of the antics of the chieftains was to cause confusion with the late submission of forms to the secretariat by their preferred delegates.
“The problem is individuals come here to collect forms. Some went to Abuja to collect their forms but when you are talking of a group bringing in 1,000 forms for delegates, it is something else because they know the forms are being collated somewhere.
“If people collect forms individually, why do we have delegate forms in thousands; why is someone collecting 1,000 forms for delegates? From here, you’ll know that there’s something behind that because delegates are supposed to collect their forms and fill it in this office or go to Abuja.
“We will not allow any shortcut. Some people have not been to this secretariat for years and they are here to cause confusion. We will not allow that to happen, everything is under control,” he said.
He declared that the party would remain committed to due process in the party affairs and would provide level playing ground for all aspirants.
In another development, the Jubril Martins-Kuye group led by Kola Bajomo accused the party leadership of refusing to collect delegates’ forms as a ploy to deny them relevance in the scheme of things.
Following the group’s protest, the party congress committee chairman, Saka Balogun, collected the forms from them, assuring them that the committee would look into their case.
