Abeokuta, Ogun State – Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, has lauded Mr. Kayode Adewale, a mathematics teacher at Imagbon/Imaka Comprehensive High School, Imagbon, for being named among the Top 50 Teachers Worldwide in the prestigious Global Teacher Prize.
In a heartfelt congratulatory statement titled “Celebrating Excellence: Congratulations to Adewale Kayode for Being Named Among the Top 50 Teachers Worldwide,” Professor Arigbabu celebrated Mr. Adewale’s remarkable achievement, highlighting its significance not only for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole.
The Global Teacher Prize, organized by GEMS Education, is widely regarded as the “Nobel Prize” for the teaching profession. Mr. Adewale’s inclusion among the Top 50 educators from over 5,000 nominations across 89 countries underscores his exceptional contributions to education, innovative teaching methods, and inspiring leadership in the field.
Professor Arigbabu noted that Mr. Adewale’s achievements align with the Ogun State Educational Revitalisation Agenda (OGSERA), through which he has made significant contributions. Mr. Adewale has trained thousands of educators, integrated technology into classrooms, and fostered global collaborations to enhance teaching practices.
Among his many accolades, Mr. Adewale has been a 2nd Runner-up for Best Teacher in Nigeria (2023), a Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Fellow in the USA, and a participant in the Limitless Global Educators Program in Houston, Texas. His groundbreaking initiatives include the Transformation5130 Project, which has trained over 5,000 teachers worldwide, and the Ogun517GoToSpace program, which introduced Space Exploration Clubs across Ogun State’s secondary schools.
Mr. Adewale’s work extends to using local languages, such as Yoruba and Hausa, to teach mathematics, making education more inclusive for underserved communities. He has also contributed significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic by teaching mathematics on OGTV and producing educational content to ensure learning continuity.
“Kayode Adewale’s recognition is not just a personal milestone but a testament to the transformative power of education in Ogun State. His achievements reflect the dedication and excellence of our educators and place Ogun State firmly on the global education map,” said Professor Arigbabu.
As the countdown to the announcement of the Top 10 finalists begins, Ogun State joins the nation in celebrating Mr. Adewale’s groundbreaking achievement and rooting for him to claim the $1 million Global Teacher Prize.
