Ogun State Government penultimate week paid over N300m compensation to groups whose land was acquired for developmental purposes at Areke village in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
At the cheques presentation ceremony at the Bureau of Lands and Survey’ office in Abeokuta, Mr. Michael Adewale, the Head, Acquisition and Compensation of the bureau, while presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries said that the land was given to investors who were ready to establish companies, which would create more job opportunities for the citizens, especially the host communities.
According to him, the proximity of Areke village to Flowergate Industrial Scheme would attract more investors in siting their industries in the area, thereby boosting the industrialisation drive of the state.
Mr. Michael Adewale said, “This present government is midwiving this project and it has put in place various measures of compensation to improve the standard of living of the citizens in the state. Therefore, the Corporate Social Responsibility of the investors must be fulfilled in the various communities which they are being hosted besides the monetary compensation to the communities. This includes good roads, health facilities and provision of potable water.”
He urged the host communities to be law abiding, partnering the government and the investors in bringing dividends of democracy to the state.
Speaking on behalf of the investors, Mr. Satar Omolola of Export Trading Group, Agro-Company Nigeria Limited commended the state government for bringing development to the people and promised their continued partnership with the government in advancing the economic status of the state.
The representative of the beneficiaries, Mr. Disu Olalekan thanked the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, for the good gesture, which he said had brought succour to the affected communities, noting that the group was in support of the government to move the state forward through industrialisation.
