The Ogun State 8th Assembly inaugurated yesterday has re-elected Rt. Honourable Surajudeen Adekunbi as speaker for another that term that will terminate in 2019.
The inauguration of the new assembly, which held at the chambers of the Assembly located at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, was done by the governor, Ibikunle Amosun, and witnessed by hundreds of party supporters and wellwishers of the new lawmakers and their family members.
Other principal officers who got elected to lead the new 8th Legislature include; Kunle Oluomo(Deputy Speaker), Adeyinka Mafe(Majority Leader), Wale Alausa(Minority Leader), and Idowu Olowofuja(Chief Whip).
In his speech, Governor Amosun told the lawmakers to see their election as a rare opportunity to lead and serve the people who have hopes on them to enjoy dividend of democracy, saying the 7th legislative has become history.
At the end of the inauguration, the lawmakers returned to the chambers for their maiden plenary. The session was brief as it only lasted for about 15 minutes.
During this first plenary, four motions were raised, which include; Witnesses, False Evidence, Security Agencies and Votes Proceedings.
The motion for adjournment was moved by Hon. Yinka Mafe and next sitting was scheduled for Thursday June 11, 2015.
