Ahead of the 2019 governorship election in Ogun State, the Ijebu-Remo Governorship Agenda Elders Forum, yesterday, picked Ogun State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru as its consensus candidate.
Ashiru was said to have defeated former Deputy Governor, Segun Adesegun, Senators Gbenga Kaka and Olorunnimbe Mamora, Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Olumuyiwa Oladipo, Abayomi Ogunowo, Dr. T Kazeem, Owodunni Opeyemi and Jimi Lawal.
According to the Vanguard, all the aspirants were screened by Chief Olu Okuboyejo-led four-man Selection and Screening Committee and settled for Ashiru.
He is to battle for All Progressives Congress ticket with aspirants from other zones later in the governorship primaries to be conducted by the APC.
He was announced yesterday in Ijebu-Ode after a tension-laced meeting of APC leaders in Ogun East Senatorial District.
