To combat Poliomyelitis infection and ensure a promising future for children, the Ogun State Government, in partnership with development organizations, initiated the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) for youngsters aged 0-5 years.
Launching the event at Idofoyi Health Center in Ayetoro, Yewa North Local Government Area, Dr. Kayode Oladehinde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who was represented by Dr. Elijah Ogunsola, the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Board, emphasized the vital role of NIPDs in the fight against polio. He reiterated that immunization’s primary goal is to support children’s growth and urged mothers to bring their children to nearby primary healthcare centers for vaccination. He also advocated for awareness campaigns in schools and markets across the state.
Dr. Ogunsola highlighted the commitment of the current administration to the healthcare needs of its citizens, particularly children. He pointed out that since its inception, the administration has successfully prevented any poliomyelitis outbreaks by implementing necessary preventive measures, thereby reducing child mortality and deformities.
Hon. Gabriel Ogunyomi, representing Yewa North Local Government Area, expressed gratitude to the state government for selecting their council as the location for the commencement of the second round of the National Immunization Plus Days campaign. He assured full cooperation in executing the vaccination drive within the local government.
In their messages of goodwill, the state Coordinators of the World Health Organization (WHO), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), along with representatives of traditional leaders and community leaders, commended the state government’s support for all healthcare initiatives initiated by the Federal government and development partners.
