At the end of the screening session by the Senate that lasted for over an hour, the upper chamber of Nigeria Legislature, Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
In the screening session, Senators questioned Justice Walter on issues of the independence of the judiciary, judicial reforms, corruption in the Judiciary as well as disobedience of Court orders.
Onnoghen promised to maintain the independence of the judiciary under his watch. He warned that the country would be in serious trouble the moment the judiciary is politicised.
Justice Onnogen was told to take a bow and leave after answering series of questions put before him by the Federal Lawmakers.
Thereafter, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, put the question for his approval before the Senate. And, the Senate unanimously agreed to confirm him as the CJN.
