The Lagos State Police Command has verified that Balogun Eletu, a music promoter also known as Sam Larry, is currently in their custody as the investigation into the death of Afrobeats singer Mohbad continues. This information was conveyed by Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin through his X account on Thursday.
Hundeyin stated, “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu aka Sam Larry is now in our custody. He is presently cooperating with the ongoing investigation.” This development transpired less than 24 hours after Naira Marley expressed his readiness to return to Nigeria for the investigation.
In accordance with the statement, Naira Marley claimed that various allegations had been circulated against him regarding Mohbad’s death, whose real name is Ilerioluwa Aloba.
Ever since Mohbad’s demise, public attention has been focused on Larry due to the scrutiny of past social media posts by the late singer, which have raised concerns.
While Hundeyin did not provide further details about Larry’s arrest, online reports suggest that he was apprehended at the airport upon his arrival in the country.
Similar calls for the arrest of Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, have been made in light of alleged conflicts with the late Mohbad, who had parted ways with Marlian Records in 2022 under less than harmonious circumstances.
In response to the accusations against him in a statement on Tuesday, the record label owner declared, “I am committed to demonstrating my innocence and am fully cooperating with the authorities to clear my name with substantial evidence.”
The police investigation commenced last week with an autopsy on Mohbad, as they pledged to thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to the singer’s death.
