Biodun Adebiyi, 32, was detained by the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly beating a 30-year-old cigarette seller, Mukaila Adamu, to death over a N50 balance.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the Suspect.
Mr. Oyeyemi stated that the suspect was apprehended after the deceased’s father, Adamu Abubakar, reported the matter to the Idiroko divisional headquarters.
He added that the Suspect came to the deceased’s business around two o’clock in the afternoon to buy cigarettes but returned around ten o’clock in the evening to the demand for his balance.
The deceased’s father, who claimed the Suspect struck his late son with a blow during a dispute, stated that his son fainted and died at the hospital.
Mr. Oyeyemi stated that the deceased’s body had been put at the mortuary for autopsy.
Meanwhile, Lanre Bankole, the Commissioner of Police, has ordered that the suspect be immediately transferred to the homicide branch of the state criminal investigation and intelligence agency for further investigation and rigorous prosecution.
