Chinyere Awuda, the 30-year-old lady tragically found dead near an abandoned swimming pool at a popular hotel in Awka, Anambra State, has been laid to rest in her hometown of Awuda, Nnobi community, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state. She was a graduate of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka.
Awuda’s untimely demise on July 15, allegedly as a result of being beaten to death at a hotel, shook her friends, family, and former schoolmates, who all gathered to mourn her during her funeral on Saturday. They remembered her as a gentle and affectionate person.
Chinyere was accused of picking up money being sprayed during a birthday party and beaten to death by a mob.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Awuda, expressed profound sorrow over their daughter’s death, emphasizing that it was an “undeserved death” for a young woman with a promising future. They recounted that they received the shocking news of her sudden passing with disbelief and anguish. According to them, although the police claimed that an autopsy indicated she had drowned, they suspected foul play as the authorities had not released CCTV footage of the incident. In their grief, they entrusted justice to a higher authority.
Ekene, the elder brother of the deceased, also voiced his family’s disappointment with the police and the hotel management for their perceived lack of compassion and assistance during this difficult time.
