We’ve heard of the fact that the iPhone will run at 120Hz this year, and today a new report from Korea confirms it and adds some interesting new information.
It is claimed that only the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max will receive the new LTPO AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and will be produced exclusively by Samsung Display. In addition, Samsung Electro-Mechanics will provide Rigid Flexible Printed Circuit Boards (RFPCB).
The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max have a 120Hz AMOLED display from Samsung
They are used to connect OLED panels to the motherboard. The RFPCB is rigid, but foldable, which allows for more comfortable product design (without the ugly “chin”) and faster transmission of electrical signals. RFPCB is more expensive than traditional FPCB.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics considered leaving the RFPCB business last year because it had not made a profit in recent years. The last product board shipped was the iPhone 12. And it seems that there is still a way out after the iPhone 13 generation.
Samsung Display is expected to ship 110 million panels for iPhones this year, followed by LG Display with 50 million and BOE with 9 million.
