Several people were feared missing, killed and properties worth billions of naira destroyed by flood waters, on Friday, following a torrential rain in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
In Ijebu Ode, a thunderstorm that accompanies the rain in the town was alleged to have killed three men.
Areas affected in Abeokuta included Kuto, Ijaiye, Amolaso, Ijeun -Titun, Isale -Igbein, Lafenwa, Sapon, and Ago-Ijesa.
According to Sunday Tribune, who went around the areas reported that many residents were still missing while a lot of vehicles were submerged by the flood.
A lot of houses, shops, and religious centers were equally affected by the flood with the victims seen evacuating their property when the Sunday Tribune visited.
Bridges at Isabo, Isale -Oja Kuto, Ijeja -Igbore caved in, to the flood.
It was learned that two children of the same mother were washed away by the flood, while their bodies were later recovered on Friday night.
Sunday Tribune also gathered that a woman and her child were swept away by the flood at Ago-Ijesa.
Scores of sympathisers thronged all the areas affected by the flood ostensibly to appreciate the extent of the damage.
The rain, which started at about 4.00pm on Friday, caused heavy traffic gridlock within the state capital.
Officials and men of the state Ministry of Environment had a hectic day, as they seen clearing debris to ensure a clean environment.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Mr Kayode Ademolake and officials of the ministry went round the town to inspect the places affected by the flood.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, also went around the town to ascertain the extent of damage done as a result of the flood.
The rain continues through Saturday and Sunday in Ijebu Ode with a lot of flooding which disrupted the social life of the town.
